Positions 2010-2011
It is time for executive position nominations! The continued growth of the section is primarily dependent on the willingness of individuals to serve. As a section that has gone through a resurgence of interest over the last few years (and even more with the 2010 Olympics), we continually need members to take part in the leadership of our Sport and Exercise Psychology Section. We have several positions that require needs faces, ideas, and energy. It is time for our section to move forward in creating a greater presence in Sport Canada and associate sport and exercise related areas and to tackle many of the challenging issues related to education and research in our field. We hope that you will take part.

The following positions are available for 2010-2011 for full members

Chair Elect
Secretary (may be an affiliate member)
Treasurer
Director (may be an affiliate member if no full members are nominated)

Student member

Each of the above positions requires a one year commitment. Typically there are 2-3 executive meetings a year, usually by conference call. You also will required to perform small tasks related to the position. Ideally the chair elect will serve two years. Our bylaws can be found at
http//www.capa.ca/sections/sportandexercise psychology/sectionbusiness/by-laws/

We also need people to serve on our current committees. These are critical committees to the development of sport and exercise psychology so please volunteer

Practice / training Committee
Conference Planning (for Toronto 2011)

The committee positions require occasional meeting and /or email correspondence throughout the year. The conference committee is usually busy in the period right after a conference (planning and encouraging symposium and speakers) and in November reviewing abstracts. The training / practice committee is in the process of developing and finalizing guidelines for psychology students to become sport and exercise psychologists (see http://www.cpa.ca/sections/sportandexercisepsychology/sportpsychologytraining/ for information about a draft template). It is also responsible for developing additional training or education opportunities for full members to practice in the area. Recently the committee has been developing and updating a referral list for the many clients and students that contact us. See the link in this paragraph for more information
If you are interested contributing to the growth of the Sport and Exercise Psychology Section by serving in either an executive or committee positions, please send your CV to torzeck@interchange.ubc.ca or pcrocker@interchange.ubc.ca with the position or committee you are interested in. Once nominations are received, we will arrange for votes (if necessary) to be sent to the past chair. Final votes and decisions on the positions will be made at the annual convention (section business meeting) in June 2010.
Please feel free to contact us if  you can help out our section.
