section fellow:  Dr. Vallerand is a distinguished member of the Canadian Psychological Association (among many other organizations- see below), achieving Fellow status and contributing greatly to the field of psychology.  As past-chair of the Canadian Psychological Association, and also of the Sport and Exercise psychology section many years before it was re-instated in 2005, we are proud to have Dr. Vallerand as a member of our sport and exercise section!!!  Congratulations on your impressive accomplishments!

After receiving his Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal, Dr. Vallerand pursued postdoctoral studies in Experimental Social Psychology at the University of Waterloo. He is presently Professor of Social Psychology and Director of the Laboratoire de Recherche sur le Comportement Social in the Department of psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal where he teaches experimental social psychology and human motivation. Dr. Vallerand has written or edited 4 books and around 200 articles and book chapters mainly in the area of motivation. His work has been cited more than 3000 times. He has also been awarded numerous research grants. He has served as chair of the Psychology Department, President of both the Quebec and the Canadian Psychological Associations, and Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Sciences. He is currently editorial board member of several international journals including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Motivation and Emotion, the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and several others. He has supervised a number of doctoral and postdoctoral students, including 15 who are now university professors. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and an elected member of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology. Dr. Vallerand has also received the Adrien-Pinard career award from the Quebec Society for Research in Psychology and the Sport Science Award from the International Olympic Committee. Dr. Vallerand's research interests focus on the role of motivational processes in optimal functioning in various domains (including sport) across the lifespan.
