Promoting the Science of Psychology

In addition to forming the Science Directorate, CPA has embarked on undertaking a number of activities and developing a number of tools as part of its efforts to increase awareness of and promote the science of psychology. In the last year, CPA introduced two new tools to the membership: R2P2 and the Research Hub. See the links below to access and find out more about these specific tools.

In June of 2009, CPA also administered a survey to the membership to find out what CPA could be doing more of or doing differently to promote the science of psychology. Key results included advocating to government and the granting councils, as well as ensuring sufficient representation of science at CPA’s annual convention. If you have any ideas on how CPA can continue to promote the science of psychology, please contact Dr. Lisa Votta-Bleeker, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director, Science Directorate at executiveoffice@cpa.ca.

Recruit Research Participants Portal (R2P2)

Welcome to the CPA’s Recruit Research Participants Portal!

This CPA-member-only portal has been developed to allow CPA members to post requests for other CPA members to serve as participants in their research studies. Posting requires you to provide a brief description of your project, stating who you are looking to recruit, participant obligation, and duration of data collection. Before descriptions are posted, you must provide CPA with evidence of REB approval, show that at least one member of the research team is a student or full member of CPA and have a psychologist on the research team. New postings will be announced via CPA’s electronic newsletter, CPA News.

Research Hub

The CPA Research in Psychology Hub is an on-line members-only tool designed to allow members to connect with each other based on their areas of research expertise.

Members interested in making use of the tool create a profile that highlights their areas of research specialty. The profiles will populate the database, which members can then search.

How can it be used?

  • Students may use it to find research mentors or graduate supervisors.
  • Others may use it to find collaborators on a research project.
  • CPA may use it to identify and consult research experts in a given area.
