Introduction

Psynopsis is Canada’s Psychology Magazine. It accepts articles on a wide range of topics of interest to scientists, educators and practitioners in psychology. It is a vehicle by which CPA, CPA members, psychologists and those outside of psychology communicate with the diverse psychology community in Canada.

Submission Information

Articles are submitted in electronic format to the Managing Editor at the following email addresses: publicrelations@cpa.ca.

Copy Deadline

Psynopsis is a quarterly publication. The copy deadlines are March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1 of each year.

Article Length

Submissions should be no more than 900 words for articles that profile developments in science or practice and 400 words for "Have your Say" submissions.

Article Style

Psynopsis is Canada’s Psychology Magazine. As such, articles are to be written in an easy to read style similar to that found in the major newspapers of the country. Reference lists are discouraged. Articles in academic style are generally not accepted.

Mailing Date

Psynopsis is mailed during the last week of the month following the copy deadline. That is, during the last week of January, April, July, and October.

Author Notification

Receipt of an article submitted for publication will be acknowledged within two weeks of its submission. If an author has not received acknowledgement of receipt within this time period, he/she must contact the CPA Head Office at publicrelations@cpa.ca.

An initial review of the article will occur within the first month after submission. The author will then be notified of the status of the article’s review. This may include acceptance, requests for editorial changes, rejection, etc.

If the author has not received notification of the status of the article’s review within four weeks of its submission, he/she must contact the CPA Head Office at publicrelations@cpa.ca.

Acceptance of an article does not mean inclusion in the next edition of Psynopsis. As stated below under the section entitled Editorial Decisions, there are a number of factors that are considered when compiling an edition of Psynopsis.

Editorial Decisions

The Editor in Chief is ultimately responsible for the content of each issue. Articles are chosen for publication based on a number of factors which include but are not limited to the relevance of the article to CPA members, the number of pages available in each issue, the frequency of articles on any one topic, the length of the article, the writing style, etc.

Psynopsis is one of the important vehicles by which the ongoing business of the Association is conducted. Accordingly, there are regular features included in Psynopsis. These include elections, by-law changes, notice of meetings, notice of motions, calls for nominees for awards, etc. In addition, designated Board members use regular columns to communicate with the membership. These articles appear in each edition and are usually one page in length.

Editorial Responsibility

Psynopsis is a publication of the Canadian Psychological Association. As such it is responsible to the CPA membership through the Board of Directors. The Board has delegated authority for the publication of Psynopsis to the Editor in Chief, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association.

The Editor in Chief is responsible for each issue. The day-to-day operations are the responsibility of the Managing Editor, a member of the CPA Head Office Staff.

The Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) retains copyright of Psynopsis.  Any article published therein, by other than an officer, director or employee of the CPA, are strictly those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Canadian Psychological Association, its officers, directors, or employees.

Advertising

Advertising is an important part of the communication function and financial viability of Psynopsis. Commercial advertisements relevant to psychology will be accepted. Examples include advertisements for:

  1. products and jobs
  2. sponsorships and affinity partners
  3. continuing education opportunities
  4. university programs and research opportunities

To place an ad or to make enquiries, contact:

Non-commercial advertising is also accepted depending on the demands for space. This includes, for example, advertisements for section membership.

The decision to include advertising of the commercial or non-commercial type rests with the Editor in Chief.

Complaints and Appeals

Anyone wishing to question a decision or to forward a complaint can do so in writing to the Editor in Chief. If the complaint is not resolved to the satisfaction of the complainant, an appeal can be made in writing to the President of the Association.
