Write for a Magazine

Writing an article for a Canadian magazine is a great way to advocate for psychology. You may decide to write on a psychology topic of interest to you (and relevant to the magazine you choose) and include a few sentences about the current state of psychological services in Canada. However you end up tackling an article, it takes a bit of planning. So before pitching to a magazine, there are a few pointers that are worth considering: How to Publish an Article in a Magazine (PDF  39 KB).

The following is a list of selected Canadian consumer publications (including descriptions, writer's guidelines, article lead-times, etc.) which lend themselves to articles related to psychology. For an exhaustive list of Canadian publications - both consumer and industry - please visit Magazines Canada at: www.cmpa.ca

Specific psychology-relevant topics they are interested in include:
  • Guilt and grief. Caregivers may feel guilt about not being able to provide enough care or grief over the loss of their loved one’s abilities.
  • Loss. Boomers often provide care over many years. When their loved ones pass away, caregivers may have trouble dealing with the loss, not only of their family members but also of their “role” as care providers.
