How to Approach Politicians. A collection of useful information about contacting/meeting local political candidates. This was prepared in the context of the 2006 federal election, but it is relevant to any political situation.

Manitoba Psychological Society
Letter to Minister of Healthy Living February 25, 2005. Letter in response to a government press release supporting BC court fight to recover health care costs from tobacco companies. Letter explains the roles psychologists can play in fighting tobacco addiction. 
Letter to Manitoba's Minister of Health  February 4, 2005. In response to the Advocacy Alert regarding the meeting of the Ministers of Health, Manitoba Psychological Society sent a letter to the Honourable Tim Sale requesting the inclusion of mental health and mental illness and addictions as a priority item. 
Psychologists' Association of Alberta
Letter urging Alberta psychologists to contact their MLAs. This letter from the PAA outlines why it is important for all psychologists to contact their local politicians, "Top 10" reasons why people don't contact them, provides insight into what an MLA wants to see, and tips on meeting them.  
Alberta general lobbying information. This general information package on mental health was sent to all federal political candidates in Alberta. It is to be used in conjunction with the Candidate Information Sheets (below).
Alberta Candidate Information Sheets. This series of 5 fact sheets provides important information on the effective use of health-care dollars; the benefits of psychological services to Albertans; the link between access to psychological services and increased productivity; the effectiveness of psychology; and, how PAA is well-positioned.
