Contact: Linda Forsythe, Executive Assistant/Office Manager Or Chair of the Awards Committee (historically the chair is our Past President which changes year to year)

Partner & Sponsors: None

Costs: Award plaque (approx. $45.00) and cost of postage/paper for mailout to media

Planning & Promotion of Event:
  • The John G. Paterson Media Award was first developed by the PAA Awards Committee in 2001

  • Each year when the Awards Committee meets they look at the awards that we have available and the history of nominations for the award to determine if the award is still viable

  • the award is advertised through the PAA newsletter and PAA website

  • a mailout to Alberta radio stations, newspaper offices and television stations is sent in January each year to promote nominations for the award from within their companies

Outcomes of Event:

  • the first year that the award was developed in 2001, it was automatically given to Dr. John G. Paterson, the person for whom the award was named

  • in 2002 we had two nominations

  • in 2003 we didn’t have any nominations, the Awards Committee made their own nomination

  • in 2004 we had two nominations

Media Coverage: No media coverage other than through out mailout to media encouraging nominations

Lessons Learned:

  • Would like to determine ways in which to promote/encourage more nominations for the award
