Forget about the stress of figuring out where to have dinner while in Winnipeg! The Canadian Psychological Association and the CPA Foundation invite you to join us and partake in an exciting dinner and tour of the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Rising like the prow of a ship on its own triangle of land, the Winnipeg Art Gallery building is a stunning example of early Modernist design. Now approaching its centenary, the WAG is Canada’s 6 th largest gallery with a collection of over 24,000 works of art. You will see some of these as part of your WAG tour. The Collection on View features highlights from the WAG’s European and Canadian collections including 15th century altar paintings, studies of the Canadian frontier by early artist-explorers, Impressionist and Expressionists innovators, and examples of 1950s Modernism, along with a sampling of the WAG’s internationally renowned collection of Inuit art. The exhibition shows the continuation of Old World styles and themes by New World artists, and how they were gradually adapted and transformed by the North American experience. It’s a dazzling exhibition that spans 600 years of art. Bartholomaeus Bruyn the Younger, Portrait of a Man, c.1525. Oil on panel. Winnipeg Art Gallery. Gift of Lord and Lady Gort. G-73-54, c.1525.
